May 17th (Tuesday) — Hike — Discovery Park Loop Trail (Rescheduled)
This lovely 4.5-mile trail winds through a forest of huge trees down to the shore where you look across Puget Sound at the Olympic Mountains. Follow the trail to the lighthouse with a beautiful view of Mount Rainier (assuming it is not a cloudy day). Continue along the beach and then hike uphill (472 feet elevation gain) to the bluff with a stunning view of Puget Sound.
Bring a sack lunch that we can enjoy while sitting by the lighthouse watching giant freighters pass by. Note: If we have to cancel due to weather, we will try to reschedule
Fun Fact: Hiking Discovery Park was the location of the first activity I (Suzanne) planned for Second Wind in 2006! It was in February and the ground was frozen, but the sky was blue and it was a gorgeous day!
Meet: Carpool from UPC: 9:15 at the UPC West Parking lot to form carpools. Or Meet at Discovery Park: 10:00 3801 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle 98199
Cost: If you are in a carpool, please pay the driver $10.
Bring: Sack lunch and water. Also, water, bug repellant, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, boots or comfortable walking shoes, clothing as appropriate for the weather (a windbreaker is a good idea), trekking poles (optional, but a good idea), and masks may be needed depending on carpool (See info above on carpool)
