What is a "sponsor"?
Sponsors are people who are growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ and letting his love spill into the lives of students who they come alongside. Our team of volunteers are called sponsors as opposed to leaders/advisors not because there is a lack of leadership or advising, but because our leadership takes the form of servant leadership- supporting, encouraging, and coming alongside students in their walk with Christ and in their relationships with others. We support and encourage students in their faith journey.
“So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us.”
--1 Thessalonians 2:8
We seek to serve from a community of adult believers who are brought together by a ministry that focuses on junior high and high school students, incarnational in approach, and focused on the building of personal relationships with each other and with Jesus Christ.

What are the expectations of a sponsor?
1) Love Jesus and pursue personal growth in Christ.
2) Love students and build faith-based relationships with them -- not just at program times, but outside of those times as well.
3) Love other sponsors by investing in this adult community of believers.
4) Show up to what you have committed to at the ROCK or Edge.

What commitments do I make when serving as a sponsor?
A commitment to your personal faith through continued study, investment in your personal community of friends, and prayer. First and foremost, commit to continue to build an individual and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Being a sponsor also involves a commitment to this ministry. Since we all have different commitments in our lives and live different distances from UPC it is not realistic to have a straight-laced commitment statement which we expect every sponsor to conform. However, your presence is a necessary part of ministry, so we ask that each sponsor commit themselves to:
- Regularly attend the program that you have committed to:
ROCK: Sunday 10 O’clock ROCK, Hard ROCK, small group
Edge: The Edge Sunday nights, Cutting Edge groups
- Communicate with the staff
- Attend sponsor meetings
- Contact students outside of program time
Other opportunities for participation:
- Mission trips
- Service opportunities
- Nights out/special events
- Worship/music teams
