Example of the UMin House covenant Houses2

UMin operates one women’s house and one men’s house on 16th Ave NE. Applications for these houses are available in March or April at The INN. The houses are full for the 2007-08 school year. For more info please e-mail Becky or call 206/524-7301, ext. 408.

I, _____________________________, understand that in choosing to live in the UMin men’s house this year, I commit to a shared purpose with my housemates. As a resident, I understand that this house is more than simply a building of residence. This house is a community of men committed to serving, encouraging, loving and challenging each other to be men of character and maturity in Christ. As a community here, our greatest purpose is to “love God with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength.” Our prayer is that our love for God will overflow into a greater love for one another and for our surrounding community here in the University District.

Commitment to Spiritual Growth: I, _____________________________, am committed to actively pursuing Jesus as an individual and seeking to grow in faith. I understand that part of my relationship with Jesus is seeking Him daily and committing to growing in His grace and in His truth. In order to accomplish this purpose, I agree to participate in the following Discipleship Training opportunities:

1. Being an active part in a UMin Core Group that meets once a week for two hours, at a time and place agreed upon by all members of the group. (If you are already part of a committed weekly small group, exceptions can be made).
2. Volunteering in a service or ministry capacity within or outside of UMin.

Commitment of Service to the Community: I, _____________________________, commit to serve my fellow housemates, realizing that I am not here for myself but as part of an integral community of people who care for and serve one another. My commitment of service includes, but is not limited to:

1. Responsibility for completing the household chore weekly as assigned to me.
2. Attending and participating in weekly house dinners & meetings (Wednesdays, 7-9 p.m.)
3. Attending the fall house retreat, October 6-8, 2007
4. Being active in University Ministries – attending The INN, retreats, etc.

I, _____________________________, agree to participate and serve as a resident in this House with the above conditions for the 2006-07 school year. I understand that I will be held accountable to these commitments.
