Series 3—Calling: You're called, but it's not about you
Overview: College students, if not everybody, are seeking what it is that they are called to. Usually that is a particular major, particular job, or, of course, a particular person (i.e. spouse). But calling should not be reduced to a specific job or desire. Rather, calling is about discovering who God is and why that matters for what we do with our ENTIRE lives, not merely our careers or our majors. Our calling is to pursue God with our lives that our lives might bear witness to God's heartbeat in the world. It is a witness, of course, that plays out in much more than our jobs and how much we tithe or who we marry. Rather, our calling is less about us and a lot more about who God is.
Spring quarter we will look at specific stories of calling throughout the Bible. We will see that God does, in fact, call people to specific tasks. But, within those particular callings, the heart of God is exposed through a story or a promise. Our commitment over the course of our final 10 weeks is to know the heart of God that calls us to share hope, grace, love, and restoration to a world in need.
