Disaster Response Update
At times this year, the news has felt overwhelming as we've learned of hurricane after hurricane, along with devastating earthquakes and fires. I’ve been impressed by this congregation's eagerness to respond.
I'm pleased to report that already, UPC members have given significant financial contributions toward disaster relief! More than $44,000 was received, which has been distributed to the following areas:
+ On Sunday, September 17, we enthusiastically assembled 1,000 World Vision Hurricane Relief Kits!
+ We have directed $2,000 to support the ministry of Christian Community Church in Puerto Rico, a congregation whose members are on the ground providing support to victims of Hurricane Maria.
+ In addition, plans are underway for a work trip to Houston the week of January 7–13, 2018, to offer hands-on support in hurricane recovery efforts there, in partnership with St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (under the umbrella of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance). The team will work to help rebuilt houses for low-income families affected by the recent disaster. Please let me know if you would like more information on the Houston trip as details come together.
Thank you again for your generous and compassionate response, as we try to make a difference in the lives of those affected by recent natural disasters.
