CS Lewis & Sigmund Freud: Contrasting Worldviews
Sunday, May 20 at 11:30am, Calvin
CS Lewis and Sigmund Freud took very different positions on the great debate between materialists and idealists (those holding a more religious view). From a Christian standpoint, does this necessarily mean that Freud is totally wrong? If not, are there some important areas where you must choose between Freud and Lewis? Scott Nolte, founding director/artistic director of Taproot Theatre, will provide one or more dialogues from the play "Freud's Last Session." Dr. Michael Macdonald, emeritus professor and founding director of Seattle Pacific University's CS Lewis Institute, will provide important context for understanding Lewis and Freud. A panel including Scott and Mike will interact and take questions from the audience.

Green Energy Without Borders
Sunday, May 27 at 11:30am, Calvin
Two million people die every year from smoke pollution and burns from their family’s cooking fire. Collecting firewood and tending to stoves takes up time that could be spent in school or studying. Forests are destroyed by the demand for firewood. This is a crisis of global proportions. Yusuf Tura has created a stove that runs on recycled waste, burns clean, and is produced locally in Ethiopia. It’s an economic and environmental solution to this enormous problem. Come hear Yusuf share his story of creating this sustainable solution for his community. Sponsored by Genesis. Attend brunch after at a local restaurant.
