University Presbyterian Church views membership as one step in a life-long discipleship process. Thus becoming a member of UPC is not so much about meeting certain requirements and having your name placed on a roll, as it is about taking up the journey of Christian discipleship with the people of this congregation. The process of becoming a member at UPC is designed to introduce you to our community, equip you to navigate comfortably within it, and prepare you to join with us in the goal of accomplishing our vision: “Every Member a Minister.”

Why become a member?
  • It is an opportunity to wrestle with and clarify what you believe.
  • It affirms your commitment to God and his people.
  • It is a commitment to a particular part of God's family that nurtures continuing growth in your faith.

When can I start the new member process?

The new member process starts with a kickoff--the next one will be this fall.  For more info and to register, email Sharon or call 206.524.7301, x560.

What’s next?

This year, each New Member Candidate will participate in small groups.  These groups will replace previous classes we have offered in the past. At the kickoff you'll be connected with a small group facilitated by an elder or deacon. The groups will be offered at various days, times, and locations--we want to make this as convenient as possible for everyone.

Joining Day

Membership Sunday will be November 14 2010 in all five services. New members will be introduced to the congregation at the service they usually attend.

Do I need to be baptized to be a member?

Yes. Your baptism could have taken place when you were an infant, child or adult; it could have taken place at a non-Presbyterian church. That’s okay. But if you haven’t been baptized then you need to be baptized prior to becoming a member.
